Parenting

Parenting is a big responsibility, but it can also provide new opportunities and joy as you raise a child. Whether you’re considering this option for the first time or are already raising children, it’s critical to learn what support is available.

You may feel that your circumstances wouldn’t allow you to raise this child. However, it’s essential to carefully consider this option if you are interested. Circumstances can change, and with the proper support, you may find that your situation improves significantly.

There’s much to consider when thinking about parenting. Though you won’t have all the answers right away, thinking through the following questions can provide insight:

  • What about this option excites me?
  • What would I need to learn more about?
  • Can I offer a safe, stable environment for a child?
  • If I already have children, what additional resources would I need to meet their needs?
  • Will the baby’s father be involved?
  • Do I have a support system?

Remember that this is your choice. Choices of the Heart will provide no-cost resources to help you make an informed decision. We also provide ongoing support, such as classes and material aid, if you’re interested in this option.

It’s your decision. We’re here to be an unbiased source of information.

Adoption

With adoption, you’ll help shape your child’s future by creating a plan that outlines your wishes and preferences for their life. Though this option can be emotionally difficult, support is available as you decide what best suits your needs.

This option can provide peace of mind as you’ll know your child is with a family entrusted with loving and caring for them. As the birth mother, you build a plan that determines how you’ll communicate with your child. You can also select their adoptive family, receive financial support for medical expenses, and more.

Adoption plans include:

  • Open adoption: Form a relationship with your child and their adoptive family via letters, phone calls, and visits.
  • Semi-open adoption: Communicate with your child and their adoptive family through a third party (like an adoption agency or attorney). Limited information (like first names) will be exchanged.
  • Closed adoption: All identifying information is sealed, and you and the adoptive family will remain anonymous.

Only you know what’s best for your future. Researching the support and resources available is part of selecting the right option for you. While Choices of the Heart doesn’t facilitate adoptions, we’ll connect you to reputable agencies and explain this option thoroughly.
